RACE

Takuma Sato endured dry and extremely hot weather conditions during what turned out to be an eventful inaugural race of the 2008 FIA F1 World Championship season. Despite the incidents though, he made a solid start to the Australian Grand Prix and gained several positions in his usual style on the opening lap.

After an encouraging middle stint however, his run ended on lap 32 when he stopped out on track with a no drive.

Takuma Sato:

"It was a difficult race for us. I did not get off the start well, but after that I fought back for position and gained a few places in the first lap, and that was an exciting moment battling in the first stint. After the first pitstop and a few laps we had a problem and I had to stop, which is a shame as everyone has done such a good job to get us here and make it happen. But I think that we collected very valuable information and data today, so I cannot wait to get started again in Malaysia."

QUALIFYING

Super Aguri experienced a better day on Saturday, the first qualifying day of the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship season.

Takuma Sato:

"Very pleased with our performance today, and everything went well under the circumstances. We had a tough start to the weekend yesterday, but it seems as though Melbourne has welcomed us back again now."

"I enjoyed the first qualifying without traction control; the car was a little bit unbalanced in the beginning, but on the third run I picked up more grip and I was happier with the balance and I was able to set a quicker lap. I think we had a very good day and hopefully we shall be able to finish the race tomorrow."

PRACTICE

Takuma Sato and the Super Aguri F1 team commenced its 2008 season challenge on Friday with the inaugural outing of the SA08A at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne.

The first day of running got off to a hot and windy start with the team opting for installation laps, grid procedure simulation and systems checks for Takuma during the morning’s free practice session.

In the afternoon Taku was able to complete his planned test programme for the day.

Takuma Sato:

"I am pleased to have started our first day of the 2008 season. Of course we had some issues as our winter preparations were not completed and we had to evaluate many things on our very first day, but it was good to see the cars running and that the team is up-to-speed. There is a lot of work to do, naturally, but overall today was good."
