RACE

The Super Aguri F1 team achieved a two-car finish at the Australian Grand Prix but, sadly, without either Takuma Sato or new team-mate Anthony Davidson making it into the points, as they twelfth and 16th respectively.

Takuma made a good race start, holding position, but saw any hope of a top eight finish disappear with a handling imbalance on his SA07.

Takuma Sato:

“ Firstly, well done to everybody in the team. It is a positive start to the season, with two reliable cars finishing the race. I had quite an exciting start and first lap amongst the pack, which I enjoyed, but, with the differing track conditions, I was struggling a bit with the balance of the car, which meant that we could not make the most of it. But I take this as a positive learning experience and something that we shall have to work on from here. During my second stop, we lost some time and that affected our finishing position. That was unfortunate, but I think we've shown good performance and made a very solid start, so I am looking forward to having another good race in Malaysia. ”

QUALIFYING

Super Aguri F1's impressive start to the season continued with not only both drivers making it into the second phase of qualifying, but with Takuma Sato also advancing to the top ten shoot-out. The Japanese driver eventually settled for tenth on the grid, with team-mate Anthony Davidson one spot further back.

Takuma Sato

“ What can I say, it was an absolutely fantastic team effort. It was a difficult day again as it was spitting with rain and a set-up change took longer than expected in the practice session so we only completed a few laps. During the whole of qualifying, the team worked well together, building up the car, step-by-step and things just went the right way. I was always going to be very happy if we made it into Q2, but I never imagined that we would reach Q3 - but we did, and it is a great feeling. Obviously, this is just the start of the season, and we have a lot of work to do, so for tomorrow we just hope to have a good race. ”

PRACTICE

The Super Aguri F1 Team made a strong start to the new Formula One season, with both of its cars appearing in the top half of the field on Friday at Albert Park. Rookie Anthony Davidson wound up 11th with Takuma Sato 13th as they worked through typical first day set-up programmes.

Takuma Sato :

“ I think it was a good start for us. We didn't have any issues with the car and everything went well straight away. We had to compromise a bit in the first session due to the mixed weather conditions, but it was good to experience both tyre options. I had a good first running in the SA07 and, although I think that we have a lot to do before tomorrow, I am positive and hopefully we'll see more progress tomorrow. ”
