RACE
Who would have thought on 14 February 2006 - when the first incantation of the SA05 took to the track at Kemble airfield - that the Super Aguri F1 team would be fighting for eighth position and its first championship point with the reigning world champions? Another milestone in the very short history of SAF1 was achieved when Giancarlo Fisichella made a third fuel stop, allowing Takuma Sato to grab the final point in the Spanish Grand Prix.
Takuma Sato:“ Just an amazing weekend, a truly great performance from the team. I don't have the words really….. Just one year plus four races, scoring one point in a head-to-head straight fight, beating Renault and grabbing the point. I just never expected this result, I'm really deeply proud of the work the team has done back in Leafield and all the team at Honda Tochigi, our sponsors, fans, families, all the people who support us. I just cannot describe how happy we are and a point means much more than anything else for us and this is an absolutely fantastic result. It was a tough race and especially through the first two stints. I was struggling a little with the pace, but I just kept on going and never gave up until the last stint when the car came back on a good balance and I was able to drive really hard. I was fighting with Giancarlo, but I could not see him ahead of me and my race engineer kept saying 'we're fighting with Renault' and I just put my foot down. When I saw Giancarlo coming down the pit-lane, and I was a fraction ahead of him, it was just fantastic. Well done everybody. ”

QUALIFYING
Takuma Sato drove confidently into Q2 of Spanish Grand Prix qualifying, but mechanical troubles prevented him from improving on good lap times set in the earlier session, leaving Taku to start Sunday’s race in 13th position.
Takuma Sato:“ It is disappointing how we finished Q2, not being able to start my second run as I stopped out on track with a fuel issue. However, we made good progress with the car through the practice session and into Q1 and both cars appeared to be running competitively. It is a shame that we were not able to carry over our momentum from the morning, but nevertheless we have had a good day and I believe that we should be able to have a strong race tomorrow. ”

PRACTICE
Takuma Sato made a solid start to the Spanish Grand Prix weekend in Friday's practice sessions at the Circuit de Catalunya focusing on completing long runs and evaluating the Bridgestone Potenza tyre options.
Takuma Sato:“ We came to Barcelona with good car balance from the test, but it took a little time to work on the set-up today. We are happy with the evaluation the tyres we completed during the practice sessions, but I think that we need to look over the data tonight to work on a competitive package for tomorrow. ”
