RACE
In the searing heat and extreme humidity of the Sepang International Circuit, Takuma Sato came home 13th overall in the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Takuma Sato:“ I made a good start. There was so much going on and a lot of cars were side-by-side going into turn one and turn two and, in the concertina, my front nose was damaged and my performance was compromised. Into turn four, I went side-by-side with the Toro Rossos and was left with nowhere to go, so I was pushed off onto the gravel and lost a lot of places. I overtook some cars, which was an exciting moment, and then I was having a good race. We then lost a few seconds in the second pit-stop, so I believe that we could have finished in a higher position. However, I think it was a positive result. ”

QUALIFYING
The Super Aguri F1 team maintained its qualifying momentum from the opening race of the 2007 season by once again getting through to the second stage of the session in Malaysia. Again, it was Takuma Sato who led the way for the team and, while team-mate Anthony Davidson encountered traffic, Taku ended the first session in 16th position, before improving on his fastest lap time to secure 14th on the final grid.
Takuma Sato:“ It was a tough qualifying. Having had a difficult free practice session, I missed the opportunity to do the soft tyre run properly in FP3. Going into qualifying, you really need to focus, and I did the best I could but, unfortunately, as a team, we made a mistake for the tyre choice in the first session which knocked my confidence, rhythm and lap time. It was very hard to go through in Q1, however I re-focused and we just made it through to Q2. We improved in the second session, but the whole of qualifying was tough. We should be happy with our result today, but it could have possibly been better. We are where we expected to be because this is such a demanding circuit, so, even though I am slightly disappointed, at the same time, I am happy and looking forward to tomorrow with hope. ”

PRACTICE
Hot weather and green track conditions contributed to a difficult day for Super Aguri F1 team, but Takuma Sato was able to find a reasonable set-up for his SA07 during the second practice session of the Malaysian GP weekend.
Takuma Sato:“ I think it was a difficult day. Having completed a good test last week, we came back here with a positive attitude but, this morning, we really struggled. Looking at the others, I thought that the track conditions weren't too bad, but we just could not get a good grip. In the afternoon, we tried a slightly different approach and the car seemed to work better than in the morning, which I was happy with, but still I think we have to work a lot for tomorrow's session. ”
