RACE
Super Aguri F1 got both cars to the end of the Australian Grand Prix on a day when the unexpected became the norm. Takuma Sato added to the unpredictable nature of the race by running ahead of both Rubens Barrichello's works Honda and David Coulthard's Red Bull-Ferrari, giving the SA05 many more valuable miles.
Takuma Sato:"At the start of the race I was driving side-by-side with many other cars for position and I was able to work my way up to the middle of the pack 窶骭 it was very exciting and I really enjoyed it. Although the safety car came out three times today, it was very good training for us and I am happy that we managed to complete our actions successfully. Unfortunately though, I had a problem with my left-front wheel and had to come into the pits towards the end of the race. At the end of the next lap, I had another wheel problem, this time with my front-right, and so I had to finish the race in the pit-lane. I am a little disappointed that I did not take the chequered flag as the boys had done such a great job today, but it was still a great day for the team."

QUALIFYING
Both Super Aguri F1 cars made it on to the grid for the Australian Grand Prix, but it was not an easy day for Takuma Sato, who lost valuable development time in free practice and then ran into slower cars in qualifying.
"It was another difficult day for us. I lost about three-quarters of the practice session due to a hydraulic problem, but the boys in the team did a great job to recover as much time as possible and get me out onto the track for a few laps in the wet conditions. The track dried out considerably for the qualifying session and I tried my best but, unfortunately, encountered traffic on my fastest lap. It would have been nice to make up a couple more tenths, but I think, under the circumstances, I am happy."

PRACTICE
After two solid grand prix performances in Bahrain and Malaysia, the Super Aguri F1 team turned up in Australia with the first fruits of its in-season labours to try out. Unfortunately, Takuma Sato found his opening day in Melbourne interrupted, but was still satisfied with the progress the team had made.
Takuma Sato:"We had a difficult start to the weekend today as we suffered a few minor problems and could not complete as much of our planned programme as we had hoped. However, we did complete our Bridgestone tyre comparison, which is very important, and, on a more positive note, we have made a good step forward with our aero package, as the new front wing is working well. Now we have to work hard over night to conquer some of our issues so that we can make more progress during our running tomorrow morning."
